AERIAL SURVEY
When photographing large areas from the air, Focal Flight uses the following procedure. This can be done for areas from several acres to hundreds of square miles. Natural color and near-infrared can be shot simultaneously.
Defining the Area The first step is to define the area to be photographed by outlining the area on a map.
Flight Planning The flight is planned with exposure points that will cover the desired area, and overlap the images to ensure full coverage. Each flight through the area is refered to as a "flight line", which will have a series of exposures at pre-determined points. The flight line map is used as a matrix to identify individual images after the flight.
Image Organization After the flight, the images are organized by flight line and image number. A matrix is created with thumbnail images to easily identify individual images.
Final Image Processing The individual images can the be joined into a mosaic or ortho-photo, both of which can be registered for use in GIS systems.
